Summer Makeup in Hawaii

Summers here and it’s all about that beautiful beach babe look by following our summer makeup tutorial!  Living in Hawaii, I guess you could say that we wear a summer look all year round.  Hawaii girls are pro’s at creating that summer fresh look.  Here’s my featured model for this inspiration, Mahina Alexander.  Mahina has a following of 62,000+ on instagram and is represented by Niche Models and talent agency in Hawaii.  Follow her on instagram at Mahiiina and her blog at www.malignantmagic.blogspot.com  Photography by Daniela Voisceu at www.daniela-v.com We had less than 20 minutes to create this look and about 15 for hair.

Here’s the how to for the summer makeup look:

Step 1.)   Prep your skin first with your daily serum, eye cream and moisturizer, oh and don’t forget the sun screen! 30+ is a must for SPF.  During the summer the weather can dry your skin and dehydrate it.  Since we’re always on the go, we may forget to drink more water so stay hydrated and drink your 8 glasses a day!

Step 2.) Create beautiful, natural skin.  You want to your natural skin to shine through your makeup so don’t over load on the foundation or powder.  Instead use a liquid or tinted foundation.  I used Laura Mercier’s tinted foundation on Mahina because it hydrates the skin and protects the skin with an SPF of 20.  Lips are also a part of the skin care regimen and I used the Dior lip glow to hydrate and add a little stain to the lips.

Step 3.) Once the base is on if it’s a liquid or cream you can introduce another cream product onto the skin.  Remember this; cream to cream and powder to powder, never mix or you can end with a streak or a blotchy look on the skin.  I chose the convertible cream color blush from Stila in Fushia. Since this product is a convertible, I also used that same color for her lips.  I used my fingers and dabbed lightly on the apples of the cheeks to give a healthy glow to the skin.  I also added Chanel’s Soleil Tan sheer illuminating fluid on the high planes of the cheeks.

Step 4.) Once the skin was applied I lightly set the foundation with a translucent pressed powder. I love www.roquecozzette.com infinite pressed powder because it sets invisibly and works well with all digital mediums.

Step 5.) For her eyes I used two products from MAC, a cream color base in Improper Copper mixed with a little bit of Strobe cream.   I wanted to give her eyes a soft highlight and as minimal eye makeup as possible.   I used a MAC 217 brush and dabbed the color on to her eyelids and up to the brow bone.  This gave a nice hint of shimmer as the sun touched her face.  For eyeliner I used the waterproof line from Makeup Forever, Aqua eye pencil in Pearly Brown 2L, it’s a beautiful golden brown sheen and I lined the top and bottom of her eyelids.   I like that there’s no fading or smudging under the eye with this product.  Once it’s on it sets well!

Step 6.) Lastly for her eyes I used two coats of Maybelline waterproof mascara in black. I tried to keep everything waterproof or water resistant and with a lighter hand to keep her looking fresh and dewy.   Here are the images from our shoot!  I hope you enjoyed our tutorial and let us know what you would like to learn!  For more information follow us at www.makeuptutorials.org
